Picture – At the centre of attention

To celebrate the arrival of the new Picture boardshorts at, Neiwa, we interview 2 young surfers, who represent the brand: Piere Mesnage, and Kevin Lestrade.

The Picture family is composed of riders, musicians, artists, who all embrace the philosophy of Picture and become proponents of the brand and its values. Here is an interview with two of them.

Pierre Mesnage, is a 28 year old surfer, from Brittany. Everything he does is to do with water, waves and a surfboard. He is originally from St. Malo, and began surfing as a teenager. Since then his whole life has revolved around the ocean. He moved to La Rochelle to study Business and through the Erasmus program spent part of his time studying in Brazil, Indonesia and Spain. He now works for a surf manufacturer, and it was through his work that 2 years ago he met “Picture”.

Kevin Lestrade, lives in Moliets, in the Landes, and grew up with surfing and the surf culture. It is over 10 years since he first began surfing. Now at 22 years old, he “eats, sleeps and lives” for surfing. He defines himself as a “free rider” and has no ambition to turn pro. What he loves most is to have fun in the waves. Surfing is his passion; the ocean is his playground. “It’s like a balance of nature, and man – we are united when we surf”.

They joined Picture because they believed in our ideas.

While Peter talks of a “mindset” to describe Picture, Kevin talks about “sharing and passion”. What is the difference?

Peter already had a sponsor when he was approached by Picture, but the philosophy of the brand RIDE, SHARE, PROTECT, seduced him. It is not so much winning competitions that has motivated him to excel, but the pleasure he gains from being in the water and riding on his board.
It is a similar story for Kevin, who has been a part of Picture since Summer 2011. He feels close to the commitments of the brand and the beauty and focus on the environment. “Picture” he says “ creates a new dynamic, far removed from traditional marketing channels. It is by giving importance to the mountains, the ocean, and the world around us – through images, that ideas will be changed.

The value of the Image.

Kevin sees video as the perfect way to spread the values of his sport. He writes a blog, where he publishes all images in which he appears. “The most beautiful moments of freestyle surfing”.

Peter too uses, vidéo as a way to express his talents. One in particular, is important to him. Made last year with Lionel Lourenco, another big wave amateur, this video was made for a contest sponsored by Nike. “Nike Chosen Crew Video Contest”. The pair did not win, but the experience gave them ideas, so much so, that in the course of this year, they will shoot another video, on behalf of Picture. We predict, beautiful images, and artistry, as well as beautiful surfing moments.

The image is vital. It is after talking with Kevin and Peter that we realize that surfing is more than a sport; it is a way of life. If sharing the values leads to a message being received, then Picture and its ambassadors will have met their objectives: to enjoy the elements while respecting and protecting them.

Responsible high quality products.

Today, our boys surf wearing biological materials, which are “very pleasant and comfortable in the water” (Peter), and “innovative”. The bioceramic material with Lycra, aids recovery and balance in the body. The material won a gold medal at Lepine 2008. where brands vied for best optimized performance material. “I really feel it works for me”, states Kevin.

The technology is still in the development phase, and we will leave you to form your own opinion, for example, by trying the new selection of boardshorts from Picture Organic clothing, in shops, and from Neiwa.fr.
Picture boardshorts are made in Portugal, based on 100% recycled polyester. The boardshorts are made of a quick drying water repellent fabric, while remaining highly comfortable.

Fabriqués au Portugal, à base de polyesther recyclé à 100%, les boardshorts Picture promettent un séchage rapide grâce à un tissu déperlant, tout en confort.

As a bonus, you can enjoy two other videos of Kevin and Peter.
