Background
Long drives in search of waves, to parts of British Columbia that few people have seen, two surfers are astounded by the destruction of the natural habitat. The impacts of the logging industry are vast, invading the furthest corners of Vancouver Island and into what remains of ancient, old growth forest. It’s impossible to look in any direction without seeing mountain slopes buzzed, like bad haircuts.

VANCOUVER ISLAND AND OLD GROWTH LOGGING
In British Columbia, across the Salish Sea, there is the Vancouver Island. It is a true haven for biodiversity and home to some of Earth’s last remaining old-growth forests. These ancient forests have played a vital ecosystem role for thousands of years.
However, within the last two centuries, roads and logging rights have provided access far and wide into the Island. It led to wipe out 80-to-95% of British Columbia’s old-growth forests - the majority of which, within the last 50 years.
Synopsis
Beyond the Green Veil sets to explore the juxtaposition between backcountry recreation and the access the logging industry provides. Most outdoor enthusiasts are also environmentalists, caring deeply for the natural world and the locations. However, access to these spots is dictated by a necessary but destructive logging industry. Michael Darling, a professional surfer, explores this idea, linking up with professional backcountry skier, Chris Rubens, and snowboarder, Timmy Taussig. They understand each other’s worlds by means of an eight-day camping and touring trip in the Selkirk mountains and a surf trip to the west coast of Vancouver Island. Without shying away from the reality, what they learn challenges audiences and recreationists to contemplate their own role in shaping the future of our environment.
“Beyond the Green Veil” isn’t your typical adventure sport film, stylish but lacking depth, as it takes an honest look at the reality of a destructive industry that makes backcountry sport possible in British Columbia.

Synopsis
In dieser Saison kommt ein Team französischer Skifahrer, bestehend aus Aurel Lardy, Vivian Bruchez und Jules Socié, mit dem Ziel, neue Skilinien in den Granitwänden des Fitz Roy zu erschließen. Wo normalerweise Seile zum Klettern verwendet werden, wollen sie ihre Skier anlegen und Kurven fahren. Ihre einzigartige Skivision bietet Mathew die Chance, das Ungeahnte zu fotografieren und extreme Steilabfahrten, oder «big wall skiing», zu dokumentieren.
ORT
Das Fitz Roy-Massiv, gelegen in der argentinischen Patagonien, liegt im südlichsten Teil der Anden auf dem südamerikanischen Kontinent und erstreckt sich über die Grenze zwischen Argentinien und Chile. Es befindet sich im Nationalpark Los Glaciares, in der Nähe des Dorfes El Chaltén. Dieses Massiv zeichnet sich durch seine steilen, ikonischen Granitberge und besonders unvorhersehbares Wetter aufgrund seiner Nähe zum Pazifischen Ozean aus. Diese Eigenschaften machen es zu einem außergewöhnlichen Terrain für die besten Bergsteiger der Welt und die wenigen wagemutigen Skifahrer, die sich dort hinwagen. Der höchste Punkt des Massivs ist der gleichnamige Fitz Roy-Gipfel (3405 Meter), nur wenige Kilometer entfernt vom ebenso legendären Cerro Torre (3128 Meter).

Chris Rubens lebte seinen Traum. Als professioneller Skifahrer bereiste er jahrelang den Globus auf der Suche nach den besten Pisten, bis eine Expedition nach Grönland ihm die Realität des Klimawandels und seine Auswirkungen vor Augen führte. Als er gezwungen war, sich mit seinem Fußabdruck und seinen Werten auseinanderzusetzen, ergriff er Maßnahmen und riskierte seine Karriere als Sportler, um Biobauer zu werden und eine stärkere, nachhaltigere Gemeinschaft und Verbindung zu den Bergen zu fördern.

Farming Turns ist ein Film, der in Chris Rubens’ Haus in Revelstoke, BC, spielt. Dort haben Chris und seine Familie den perfekten Ort, um ihre Leidenschaft für das Skifahren, die Natur und ihre Farm zu teilen. Revelstoke liegt zwischen den Bergketten Monashee und Selkirk im Südosten von British Columbia und ist reich an Naturschönheiten. Sie liegt im einzigen gemäßigten Regenwald im Landesinneren der Welt.
Christ Rubens & seine familie
Chris Rubens, seit zwei Jahrzehnten ein weltweit anerkannter Skifahrer, verbringt seine Winter im Backcountry und konzentriert sich auf das Filmen und Fotografieren seiner Abfahrten. Inspiriert von einer Reise nach Grönland im Jahr 2016, setzt er sich durch sein persönliches Beispiel für den Klimaschutzein. Gemeinsam mit seiner Lebensgefährtin Jesse Johnston-Hill, die selbst Erfahrung mit Baumpflanzungen und ökologischer Landwirtschaft hat, gründete er 2020 die First Light Farm in Revelstoke, British Columbia.

The story
There are a thousand ways to tell a story. This one follows a different way of experiencing time, one that guides our protagonists all throughout the twenty-two day expedition in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan. Following in the footsteps of the country’s nomadic people and the ancient Silk Road, Thomas Delfino, Léa Klaue, and Aurélien Lardy embark on an adventure to one of the most remote and still unexplored places in Asia: the Kokshaal-Too Mountains. This dream team, with support from legendary high-mountain guides Hélias Millerioux and Jean-Yves Fredriksen, find themselves thrown into a world where Time and Space appear to stand still.
There are wild animals, of course, but just as wild are the mountain landscapes and weather patterns. Time accelerates when the riders drop in and make their first turns on the other side of the world, sketching stunning lines down truly immaculate peaks. This very personal adventure ingrains Kyrgyzstan and its culture into each of their hearts.
Location
The Kokshaal-Too region is part of the Tien Shan Range. Located on the Kyrgyz-Chinese border, these mountains are surrounded by Lake Issyk-Kul to the north and the Taklamakan Desert to the south. Access to the glacier valleys is extremely difficult, explaining why so few have ever been explored. This makes for an even greater challenge…
